You must have heard from your grandparents and parents, that earlier the relationships between teachers and students used to be healthier and beyond the boundaries of educator-learner. But now teachers teach, students learn, ask doubts, but that’s all, the students think of attending classes as a mere formality but there is no relationship between a teacher and student anymore.
We can’t bring back those times, but at least we can do is try to improve the connection between teachers and students. With that being said, here are some strategies for the betterment of the teacher-student relationship.
Student-teacher relationship improvement methods

Remember the names of your students: – What we generally do is that we ask the names of our students and then forget those names the next day as attendance in schools is taken by roll numbers. But did you ever think that this can make your pupil feel like he or she doesn’t exist?
Remembering the names of your students correctly can help build trust and in turn, lead to a healthier relationship. We would also recommend you to not be fancy and provide nicknames to your students; some students can take it as an insult.
Promote show & tell in classes: – The rules of the school are boring enough, don’t add to that boredom by making your class just a study schedule. At least pare 15 minutes in a class for show & tell.
Allow your students to bring something to class that can be used to have a fun interaction with everyone. For example, souvenirs from trips, photos, trophies, or something that showcases your pupils’ talents. Make sure that you give each learner an opportunity for show & tell. Doing this will ensure that your students like you more and thus, attend your classes.
Appreciate your students: – You think that you are already appreciating your students by giving compliments on good test scores. But is it enough? What about the hard work students do in projects and holiday home works? We can’t deny this fact that projects and holiday home works are just thrown in waste at the end of the year, so what’s the solution?
You can take pictures of students along with the projects done and post these photos on bulletin boards. Students love seeing each other’s work and then appreciating each other for it. This will have your students genuinely respect you because you are making your pupils realize that you care.
Listening to your students: – Discipline is indeed necessary for students, but as we say as the Best Arts School in Jaipur, that moderate discipline is enough and that doesn’t mean in any way that you should keep a distance from your students.
Listen to what your students have to say other than study-related material. When you hear out your pupils’ stories related to personal life, trips, or experiences, you are gradually becoming someone with whom your students will love to interact.
Be like a friend to each student: – This may seem hard to you at first, but this strategy always works, when you allow a student to come to your office with his or her problems or even for a personal chat that the pupil can’t share with anyone else, that pupil will think of you as more than a teacher. General conversations always have a positive effect on student-teacher relationships.
This has a good effect on you too, when you start allowing your students to visit you in your free-time then you get to know each student’s strengths, weaknesses, likes, dislikes, etc personally, which can help you to improve your students, physically as well as emotionally.
