A part of the fun learning process outside the classroom is going on regular field trips, where the students enjoy a refreshing time and learn along the way. However, school field trips have more benefits than just stimulating classroom learning. If you are interested, please continue reading.

Advantages of going on regular field trips

We recommend an educational tour at least once a month to give a break to your students. Such excursions have many benefits; let’s see a few below.

  • School field trips improve students’ critical thinking, soft, and communication skills. It’s an excellent way for teachers with limited resources.
  • Experiential learning gets even better because of the presence in real locations.
  • When in a classroom, students take more time to revise the topics, but outside it becomes quicker as they immediately recollect topics from textbooks via visuals.
  • On field trips, students discover new perspectives and cultures and expand their knowledge. These are concepts that you can never understand in classrooms.
  • The bond between students and teachers is also enhanced outside the classroom as there is naturally more engaging.
  • Students make memories that last a lifetime.
  • Some students learn more by doing. For such pupils, field trips are the best.
  • Each student has a unique inspiration to learn more when returning from field trips.
  • Students can also become familiar with local culture, which is a great thing to share and increase knowledge.

How to make a field trip the most memorable

A field trip is not just about coming and going back. Students should return with retained knowledge, experience, and sharable memories.

Reveal the place of visit with great enthusiasm to the students: If your students are not excited about the educational tour, then there is no point in it. So we excitedly reveal the place to the students, ensuring that the interest sparks early.

A small preparation activity will be helpful: Before we go on the actual field trip, we at NCPS Jaipur prepare our students for it. For example, if it’s a museum, we find the timings, weather conditions, entry fee, etc., before leaving.

Engage as much as possible at the destination: After reaching the location, we make the engagement as interesting as possible. We usually hire a guide, keep a camera, and give each student a notepad and audio device with recorded information about the place. The idea is to retain the knowledge, so we make the discussion open-ended and enjoyable.

Follow-up with a discussion: After every field trip, we do a little follow-up activity with our students, which refreshes what we learned on our journey. Here’s what we recommend using.

  • Questionnaires to make the concept even more etched in our students’ minds.
  • For revision, students can write a short description or anecdote on the learnings.
  • Your students can illustrate the likes from the trip in the form of drawings, acts, etc.

We are sure that if you use these tips like us, your school field trips will become lovely memories that your students will never forget.
